Paying Tribute to the Life of Carlos del Sol

Carlos Manuel del Sol (BSIE ’72) passed peacefully on November 24, 2024. He served as chair and member of the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Board, former chair of the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) Advisory Board, and a member of the UF Alumni Association Board of Directors.

After graduating from UF with his bachelor’s degree, del Sol began his career at the General Electric Co. before moving with his family to New Jersey to join the Campbell Soup Co. After 23 years at Campbell Soup, del Sol retired as the vice president of Global Engineering Systems in 2011. During this time, he also served as vice chairman of the Campbell Soup Foundation and as a trustee of the Board of the United Way in Camden County, New Jersey.

Upon retirement, del Sol moved back to Gainesville, Florida, with his wife, Olga (BAE ‘74), eager to dedicate his time and service to the community and to UF.  He was recognized with the UF Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2013 and the UF ISE Alumni Leadership Award in 2010.

Within the Gator engineering community, the del Sols have supported student scholarships, the STEP-UP program, the ISE department, and the Herbert Wertheim Laboratory for Engineering Excellence, the college’s new flagship building.

Beyond his professional achievements, del Sol will be remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness and unwavering support for the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering’s mission.
